Is there ample parking at the Bowes Museum?
Yes. Drive through the main gates and turn to your left. You'll find you can park on either side of this road or you can drive up to the main carpark which is behind the museum. There will be marshalls to help you and answer any questions.
How much time is allowed for picnicking?
The Bowes Museum is a public park so you may arrive as early as you wish and picnic before the production. However, many members of our audience use the 45-minute interval to enjoy their, often lavish, feasts. There is a tent in which your picnic hamper can be left safely.
Can food be bought during the evening?
Yes, there is a professional caterer (Country Coffee Shop) on site offering a wide variety of quality food. There is also a wine stall.
Do I need to bring a chair to watch the performance?
No. In fact, we do not allow chairs into the auditorium. Instead you will find banked seating which will give you an excellent view of the performance. In front of the seating is an area of ground mats for those on a budget. By all means bring chairs for your picnic but they must be left in your car or on the lawn when the play recommences.
