A Midsummer Night's Dream
The Castle Players returned to Shakespeare and to the play which started it all. The change came in the director; Gordon Duffy-McGhie, a professional actor who first appeared for the group as a fire eater in the 1990 production of A Comedy of Errors, took over at the helm. Working with composer Ray Johns, he incorporated specially commissioned music performed by a professional orchestra into a magical production, turning the stage area around to give audience members a new perspective on the action. Meanwhile, Simon Pell - director of the first twelve summer productions - took the part of Peter Quince, who directs the mechanicals' play within the story.
