The (Reduced) Importance of Being Earnest
Winter 2010
"To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness."
Whenever Jack Worthing gets bored of the country he secretly escapes back to town under the name of Ernest. This deceit leads to hilarious consequences in Oscar Wilde's classic comedy of late Victorian social manners, snobbery, courtship, cucumber sandwiches - and HANDBAGS??!!
A must see show for all the family! This production will tour village halls and venues in Teesdale and beyond from December. Check back here for details.
The first rehearsal will be in the Witham Hall at 7.00 p.m. on Monday, September 13.

The Mummers' Play
September 11-12
"In comes I, King George, the Dragon for to fight with broad sword."
See The Castle Players' perform their short "Mummers' Play" in the grounds of the castle on September 11-12. The show will be performed throughout the day at regular intervals in support of Barnard Castle heritage weekend.
Like all Mummers' plays The Castle Player's version follows a centuries old English tale of death and resurrection, with a plot that is very patriotic and very short. The evil Turkish Knight challenges King George to a duel, during the course of which King George overwhelms, then slays the dastardly foreign challenger. After the event King George is mortified when he realises that he has killed his own long lost brother. There then enters, most fortuitously, a Doctor who, with much mumbo-jumbery and quackery, brings the corpse back to life, which results in much rejoicing and merry making.
This is traditional street theatre at its best and only lasts 10 minutes, after which the hat will be passed round - please support and give generously!!
