Winter Tour - 2026

Ladies’ Day
by Amanda Whittington

An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books
We are delighted to announce that the Castle Players’ Winter Tour 2026 will be Ladies’ Day, a sparkling comedy-drama by Amanda Whittington.
The play follows four women from a Hull fish-packing factory who swap their hairnets and wellies for hats and heels when Royal Ascot relocates to York Racecourse in 2005.
What begins as a day out at the races soon unfolds into a heartfelt journey of friendship, ambition, and self-discovery. Full of humour, warmth, and poignancy, Ladies’ Day promises audiences both laughter and touching moments.
Ladies' Day will be co-directed by Sarah Fells and Heather Armstrong. Their vision is to transport the audience from the cold, dreary fish factory to the glamorous, bright and exciting York racecourse in sunny June.
Sarah and Heather envisage a simple design with minimal props. Lighting and sound will play a major role in transporting the audience from Hull to York.
The Winter Tour begins at the Witham on January 17, 2026. It will end at the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, on February 21, with additional performances at various Teesdale locations.
